The brain is the centre of our emotions and actions and all of our thoughts and ideas. The spinal cord is known as our nervous system which contains long nerves controlling feeling in our body and all of our muscles.
Tumours usually begin developing in the brain or spinal cord. Cranial nerves may also be the source of tumours, the results may be hearing or vision loss, also in some cases paralysis of the facial nerves.
Brain tumours may develop in children as well as adults, and the only factor which induces the risk of developing brain tumour, that has been scientifically proven is radiation or radiation therapy (chemotherapy). Adults or children who have been treated with chemotherapy are more receptive to brain tumours in the future.
The reasons why brain tumours evolve may be genetic as well as environmental. Some studies have shown that the use of mobile phones is one of the causes of brain tumours. However, not enough proof has been provided to back up this theory.
Using too much sugar substitutes which contain aspartame may also induce the developing of brain tumours.
Maternal smoking is one of the leading causes of brain tumours in children.
Prevention is not possible as no certain risk factors are known.
