Stomach Cancer

The stomach or abdomen as it is referred to by the doctors, is the organ of digestion, which stores food we have eaten and where with the help of stomach juices the digesting process begins.

The stomach itself consists of 5 different layers but the cancer usually starts developing in the innermost one. The severity of cancer increases as the cancer cells reach the next layers.  The cancer cells may grow through the layers of the stomach and spread to other organs which are located nearby, but it may also spread to the lymph nodes and spread through the lymphoid system. Also, the cancer cells may spread after getting into the blood stream.

The main causes in addition to the most common ones as smoking, alcohol abuse and wrong diet are also a certain type of bacterial infection in the stomach, which may be a result of a surgery; also other diseases and viruses that may infect the stomach.

Prevention of stomach cancer is easy by making changes in our everyday life – doctors recommend consuming fresh food or food kept in refrigerators rather than canned foods or otherwise conserved foods and of course, stop smoking and abusing alcohol!
