A urinary bladder is an elastic organ with water- and gas-proof walls and it is used for storing urine, which is produced by the kidneys. The bladder walls have three separate layers, bladder cancer usually develops in the lining layer.

There are several different types of bladder cancer, the most common one of them is called Urothelial carcinoma.

Bladder cancer is possible to detect early by doing certain tests, still, these kinds of tests are only recommended to be performed on people, who are at risk of developing bladder cancer.

One of the leading causes of bladder cancer is heavy smoking. The harmful substances that cigarette smoke contains, absorb in the blood and through the kidneys reaches the urine and therefore also reaches the bladder where it may cause serious harm.

Another cause of bladder cancer is other problems with the bladder and infections.  Males are more apt to get bladder cancer than women and the risk enhances with age.

To prevent bladder cancer, there is a simple precaution to be followed – drink enough water and liquids to help urine take out all the harmful substances from your body and therefore prevent bladder infections which may lead to bladder cancer.
