The liver consists of several different cells and is therefore also „an ideal” place for the development of cancer cells. Due to the various different cells, there are also various types of cancer that can begin to develop in the liver.
Mostly, liver cancer is induced by other liver diseases like Cirrhosis or Hepatitis type B or C viruses. These are mostly induced by alcohol abuse and smoking (there is a greater risk when both occur).
However, other causes include the use of birth control pills, obesity, diabetes, use of steroids etc. So there are a number of possible causes and facts to keep in mind.
Liver cancer occurs mostly in men, probably because statistics show that men are more likely to abuse alcohol than women.
Researches show, that most types of liver cancer can mostly be prevented by following the general rules and precautions. One of the most important precautions is vaccinating against Hepatitis B, as this virus is one of the leading causes of liver cancer.
Liver cancer is hard to discover and can only be detected by a special blood test. These tests are usually performed in case of people in their 40s or 50s, as this is the age when liver cancer most often appears.
The symptoms of liver cancer include long-term loss of appetite, swelling of stomach, weight-loss and also other symptoms which keep getting worse.
